Welcome to North Wilts Hockey Club - Make it your home
North Wilts Hockey Club was formed in 1974 by former members of the W.D & H.O Wills Social Club hockey section. The home pitch was at the Oasis Leisure Centre, which, through the 1970s and 80s boasted a redgra pitch, at a time when most hockey was still being played on grass. Initially opponents were entertained after the game at the Oasis, then in 1979 North Wilts entered into a partnership with the Swindon Cricket Club and used their pavilion as a social base.
Originally North Wilts ran only men’s and mixed sides, but in 1983 there were so many ladies enjoying Sunday mixed hockey, that they decided to start a ladies team.

1987 saw the opening of the Astroturf pitch at Dorcan School, and North Wilts moved to their present home.
The Wills Social Club became the club’s social HQ in 1990, where they remained until its closure in 2002, when North Wilts were pleased to join forces with Swindon Rugby, whose club house is our current social and administrative base.
The origin of the club is remembered through North Wilts touring side’s name Imps. Wills were part of Imperial Tobacco.
